Remote Sensing for Digital Earth unit focuses on the definition of an integrated system that can jointly use remote sensing and pattern recognition technologies in different application domains for supporting a digital monitoring, analysis and sustainable management of the Earth. Systems should effectively map and monitor the Earth (intended in a general way) at variable time and space scales by means of different kinds of data (passive and active).

Effort is devoted to strengthen the connection between technological and methodological developments, and to define competences related to specific application fields. Therefore technologies and methodologies for data processing will be applied to specific problems of environmental control and management for the generation of novel services.
